The concept of Pay It Forward is something as parents, we all hope to instill in our kids.
As we get them ready to go back to school, Walgreens Clinic
is giving us a helping hand doing just that.
Get A Shot – Give A Shot® – Pay It Forward
When my oldest daughter was entering Kindergarten, we took her to get her Back To School physical, and those all important immunizations. She was always a Sassy Girl, headstrong, I can do it by myself… you know, like me. When the nurse said she needed her to fill that cup, it was ‘No mom, I can do it alone just fine‘ So, I let her. Course when she came back from the bathroom with a cup filled with water and tried to play it cool no one but me laughed and thought it was hilarious. Also, not funny when she hid under the desk and kicked and screamed when that needle came out either. Kind of a drama queen. We took Ethan last week for his B2S visit. He’s also a bit full of dramatics. But I had a whole Pay It Forward speech ready and crossed my fingers…
He already volunteers to help the younger kids at school with their reading. He’s a super duper smarty pants. And he knows, sharing is caring. So I explained how the Get a Shot, Give a Shot® program from Walgreens works. It’s aimed at children, 7 and up. His peeps, since he’ll be 8 in 2 weeks. For every school immunization given, a life saving vaccine is provided to a child in a developing country through the United Nation Foundation’s Shot@Life Campaign. He started to get a wee bit of shot fear, but totally hung in like a champ to pay it forward. Explaining how lucky we are to live where shots are readily available and some kids aren’t that lucky was all he needed to hear. He’s got a good heart.
Pay It Forward – With Walgreens Health Clinic
Our local store is less than a 5 minute drive from home. I know you have one close to you too, right? Easy in, easy out. Also, no appointment needed. Which means you can pop in after work, on a weekend, you get the idea. Most insurance is accepted and Walgreens will send a report back to your Primary Care Doctor for their records as well. No excuses ya’ll!

How Can You Pay It Forward?
My brother is a teacher, my BFF Kathy is a teacher, and I know 1st hand how hard they work for our kids each and every year. Most teachers stock their own classrooms with supplies. While we were out, we not only got everything on Ethan’s supply list, we made sure to grab some extra supplies to send for his teacher this year. New year, new supplies are needed. You can help a teacher out and set a good example for your own kiddos on how to Pay It Forward. Grab a few extra pencils. A box of crayons. Maybe even those cool safety scissors. Just a few extras to make the load a bit less on that awesome person spending this next year making your small fry a smartie! It’s a good thing!

I agree that helping out teachers in the classroom by bring in extra supplies is a good way to pay it forward. I also think that showing kindness is also a way of ‘paying it forward’.

It’s always important to get your kids their shots, it’s shocking that there are some parents who don’t believe kids need them.

it seems like shots are made super easy with Walgreens! What a great program they have.

I had no idea that Walgreens had a program like this! My kids are all set for school already, but I’m going to share this with a mom friend of mine who is slacking on being prepared for school. Actually her doctor’s office is backed up big time. Regardless, she’d love this!

Your pharmacies give physicals? That’s nuts! Your boy is a brave one, good job!
Michelle F. says
That is great that you can do it right in your local Walgreens. Love that you don’t need an appointment.

Kids usually are scared of medical exams. They made it more fun by their methods so kids could enjoy it.

We always send in lots of boxes of Kleenexes. Also, we started sending in boxes of straws to help the kids with the milk program

I hope we have something like that here. I would like my son to try it out.

WE don’t have this kind of advocacy here in our country. I hope we can join this too. I’m glad that Walgreens is doing it for the community.

Walgreens has a great walk-in clinic! I have been there on 2 occasions. I’m happy to see they have a program like this! I am not anti-vaccine and think it’s so important to show kids how to give back!
Rebecca Swenor says
This is awesome of Walgreens for giving to children in need. It will help with children allowing or excepting the shots also. Thanks for sharing.

Your son is so adorable..I think this pay it forward is a great idea. Are you allowed to leave him there and come back for him after you are done or do you really need to wait for him?

The pay it forward momentum is so important. I love that Walgreens is helping provide immunizations, making health care available in countries that don’t have their own means is great!
