Harris The Service Dog Training Tips – Positive Reinforcement Technique
Summer is here in Vegas! That means the people and their pets will be out and about doing all the fun in the sun stuff.I wanted to grab you guys for a few minutes for some quick Dog Training Tips. It’s important for both pet safety as well as people safety! Poorly trained dogs in very public places could be kind of dangerous. My tip for the people, you should wear sunscreen. I’ve heard those sun burns can be awfully painful! And mom says… wrinkles and skin cancer, not to forget that! But having a pet with good manners using my easy dog training advice, will make those fun in the sun days enjoyable for everyone!
Dog Training With Positive Reinforcement
Also known as ‘Command and Reward’ technique. The first step? Using healthy dog treats to motivate your furry friend! Before we get started, I want to show off some of my mad skills just a bit. You’re ok with that, right?
Awesome ain’t I!! (ain’t?? aren’t??) To be far to your furry love, I had a lot of advanced dog training at a special place Canine Companion For Independence. Holds a special place in mine and mom’s heart. But, the same basic principals taught there apply to all you guys as well! Give a command, get a reward. Positive reinforcement rather than negative corrections!
Like I said, good dog training all starts with us wanting to get that special reward! But, what to pick? Mom goes to Walmart and as you can see, there’s a gaziilion different types. She buys Nudges. Be a label reader! The best dog treats and food will be made in the US. They shouldn’t contain artificial flavors or fillers. Because… EEwww… And, if protein is not the main ingredient, pick something else! We don’t need all the extra LBS. Over weight dogs are unhappy and unhealthy dogs. Since food and treats are an everyday part of your pets life, always go for quality to keep them healthy and happy!
Dog training tips can be easily summed up in 1 sentence. Rewards and praise are what dogs work for. Period. Not because we love you. Although, we absolutely do! But here’s the secret we don’t tell you. We’re all domesticated and stuff but we’re still pack animals. We look for and need a leader (this would be you) to follow, guide and teach us. The best dog training always includes – command, praise, reward. In that order! Assign a 1 word ‘command’ to the action you want your pet to do. Let’s start with Sit. This is pretty easy to teach, even to young puppies. And, the younger, the better. Simply (and gently) press on that cute little tush while giving the command “Sit!” Firm but not angry voice. When their tiny, little back end is on the ground, praise, praise, praise! And finally, reward with a high quality dog treats. Once they’ve mastered and got the hang of 1 command, go on to the next. After getting your love bug potty trained, I recommend starting with all the basic ‘manners’ first. Off, Down, Don’t… Dog training isn’t simply so your buddy can do cool tricks. You want your dog, kids, and all visitors safe as well! Using good dog training tips at a young age makes for a super obedient dog later! Remember to train early and often. That cute 10lb puppy will grow sooner than you realize into an 85lb dog! Trust me on that one!
From there, you can work on all the cool stuff. Like… Get, Give, Roll. A great way to get those going is to get outside! Pack a bag with some water (it’s hot, remember!) those awesome dog treats, a leash and some balls. I’ve got mine sitting by the door. Then, we go do this….
Exercise! Run, play, roll around in the grass. All that good stuff! Dog training is super successful when done while we think we’re just out having fun! Be sure to check out Nudges Facebook page! They have lots of great tips, and coupons sometimes too!
So, what do you think? Are you ready to get your furry love bug started with my dog training tips?

What a gorgeous dog. His coat looks very healthy. We all need a little discipline even our pets. But they are sooo cute. Thanks for a great blog

I think positive reinforcement really gives pets incentives especially if it comes in delicious jerky cuts. I think they use the same technique in training dolphins and seals.

Oh my goodness! You have no idea how timely your post is to our household. We are training a miniature Dachshund and she is adorably sweet but soooo stubborn. She is learning though but her teething is out of control. I’ve never heard of Nudges but it looks like just the thing to help her learn not to chew on fingers and help sooth those achy teeth.

Your dog is precious. We have a black lab. She is old. She sleeps a lot and loves to lay in the sun. When she knows she is getting a treat she does the commands pretty well. She would love those doggie treats. I love the fact that they are made in the U.S. I have never heard of them before so thanks for sharing it.
