Sweet and Spicy Slow Cooker Apple Pork Roast Recipe
Last month, I made a Slow Cooker Apple Pork Recipe guest post for one of my blogging buds. It turned out so incredibly amazing, I have to share it with you guys too! It’s just the right amount of sweet mixed with enough spicy to be all kind of awesome! Since we’ve all got tons of apples laying around, this is perfect timing to pop this one on! I love Fall! The amazing smells are what get me all tingly! And this, will have your house smelling all kinds of wonderful! This Apple Pork Roast Recipe is something I always loved my grandma making when I was a kid. I tweaked it around some so it’s super easy for the crock pot. And then, threw in a kick of spice. I’m a spicy kinda girl and it needed a bit of kick. My family now loves it too! I like knowing a bit of grandma lives on with her pork roast recipe! We’re all so busy these days with kids rushing to school, sports, the holidays right around the corner… The Slow Cooker is my best friend lately! Set it and go! Did I mention the warm apples and spices makes the house smell Uh.Maze.Ing! You can make this with pork chops, a roast, even a pork loin. Any kind of apples you like will do as well! I bet you already have everything you need right now! Let’s get this baby going! It’s what’s for dinner!
Slow Cooker Apple Pork Roast Recipe
INGREDIENTS:
- 2 lbs. Pork Roast
- 1 Yellow Onion (sliced thin)
- 1 Apple (1in slices, I used Granny Smith)
- 1 Cup Applesauce (I used unsweetened)
- 2 TBS Honey
- 1 TBS Balsamic Vinegar
- 1 TBS Cinnamon
- ½ TSP Ground Ginger
- ½ TSP Sage
- ½ TSP Crushed Red Pepper
- Kosher Salt and Black Pepper (to taste)
DIRECTIONS:
First, let’s start with cutting slits in your pork roast. About ¾ of the way through. I made 10. 5 on each side. Stick your sliced apples right down in those slits. Set the rest of the sliced apples aside. Rub salt and pepper into roast and place in your slow cooker. In a medium saucepan combine applesauce, vinegar, honey, and the rest of your dry spices. Mix well over medium heat. Don’t let this boil! Simmer for about 3-4 minutes. Pour the whole she-bang right over the top of your pork roast in the slow cooker. Now, add the rest of your apples and all of the onions. Set your slow cooker on low and let that baby cook for 3-4 hours. Go and take a nap! When you wake up, the smell will make your mouth water and you’ll be tempted to keep checking it! Resist the urge! We want the steam to keep it moist, right? A dry roast is kind of yucky! You will want to check about ½ way through to make sure you don’t need to add a few drops of water, depending on your cooker. I didn’t have to but, ya know how that goes sometimes. When his awesome Pork Roast recipe is done, remove from cooker, plate it up and sit down and have a delish dinner with the fam! I whipped up some homemade mashed potatoes and a side of peas. Pick your favorite veggies. Veggies are important for growing kids!
Gives a whole new meaning to the old Pork Chops and Applesauce, huh?
