Unlimited Wireless Plans AKA How To Keep Husbands On A Leash
Remember back in May when I told you I was giving Walmart Mobile Unlimited Wireless Plans a test go ’round? See if maybe I could give my hard working Firefighter husband a break by lowering some bills… Maybe even work in that new Coach Bag I was eyeballing in the process? I’m back with an update on if Walmart Family Mobile has been worth it. If we’ve kept their unlimited wireless service. Why or why not. But, I’ll tell you now, I didn’t get that new Coach bag. Seriously bummed about that.
Walmart Unlimited Wireless Plans – Have We Kept It?
Oh yes! We for sure kept it! My husband has been a Captain at the fire department and paramedic for a gazillion years. It’s a tough job, stressful as you can imagine. But, also super rewarding and something he really loves doing. It was a risky job! Running into burning buildings, dropping in from a helicopter by a tiny string to a mountain top rescuing stranded/hurt hikers, not getting to someone in time to help. And, there’s always those cute kitties that get themselves stuck in trees. What we didn’t count on being a risk? The fire department just closing down 1 day. Who would think that could even happen? The only station in a 100 mile stretch, just closed. County budget cuts kinda stink. We thankfully had my income to keep us off the street but some serious cuts now had to be made in our own budget. With my disability and having Ethan around dumping cell phones completely isn’t an option. Plus, I’m a mad texter. And, I need my Smartphone for work when I’m out covering events. How ya’ll going to know who’s wearing what at the local Vegas hot spots, right? I was so happy we kept the cheap wireless plan after my assignment with Walmart ended! Also, just this past week my husband was dropping the dogs off at the groomers and then running to the grocer so I could whip up more awesome sauce cupcakes. The school called to tell me Ethan was all kinds of sickly and had to go home. I whipped out my texting fingers and sent him off to the school. Poor kid. Looks pathetic, huh? I kinda, sorta had my husband on a leash! He could leave, but he was still connected when I (Ethan) needed something! He hates buying frilly cupcake stuff, but whatever.
Walmart Unlimited Wireless Plans – How Much Do We Save?
See that crazy bill up there? Yeah, that’s our old family wireless plan bill. OBNOXIOUS! That’s not even for cool unlimited wireless plans like some people have! Nope, 2 lines, unlimited texting, 450 shared talk minutes (but unlimited mobile to mobile) and a restricted amount of data. AND! If you notice, that includes a 15% discount since my husband was a Firefighter. You don’t even want to know what it would go up to when we run over data! The big switch to Walmart Family Mobile unlimited wireless plans made it only $40. Now, right there, we saved some cash. Adding a 2nd line bumped it up by $35. Total? $75! Let’s do the math. $161 – $75 = $86. That’s how much we save EVERY MONTH! I bet, if the fire department hadn’t closed, I would have that pretty Coach bag on my arm! We are able to use our Galaxy IV’s and for those of you with iPhones, you’re good to go too. You’re not stuck with un-smartphones just because you have a money saving cell plan.
Any Hidden Stuff With The Unlimited Wireless Plans At Walmart?
Nope. There’s no monthly contract. So, say for example I win the Powerball and just want to blow through the cash and go back to our old plan. I’m free to do that. Without any kind of termination fees. I don’t know what I’m doing for dinner 1/2 the time let alone for 2 years to be tied to a contract. The only thing ‘tied’ here is my husband, with his cellphone leash. One thing to keep in mind though…. When you 1st sign-up and at the beginning of every new billing cycle, you get 1GB boost of data speed. But, if you use that up, you drop down to a slower speed. In general, this might not be a huge deal for most folks. Perfect for your family if you’re not doing a lot of online type stuff.. With my job I do go over that 1 GB sometimes. It’s certainly not crawling through sand kind of slow speed at all, but we did noticed a difference. The remedy? You can buy Boost packages. I think they are fairly priced with $10 or $25 options. Which, still makes your bill less than we were paying with the other unlimited wireless plans. And, there’s none of those obscene overage charges. I also have to say that I love how easy paying my bill is. Pop over to the website, log in, pay, and bam! Done! Or, give them a call and pay over the phone. You can even pay in the store when you’re picking up cupcake liners! No bills getting lost in the mail or tossed in the junk pile at home either. We get a text saying how much our bill is and when it’s due. Yep, we’re still happy. I’ll be back next month with 1 last update to keep you posted. Make sure#FamilyMobileSaves.
In the meantime, anyone need to hire a paramedic / firefighter? No? Ok, how do you save money on your unlimited wireless plans??

I am looking for a new provider right now. Do you know if there is a way to see if they have real coverage in my area?
Sassy says
If you click on the link in my post, there’s a section that tells you what areas have coverage AND how good the coverage actually is. Some areas are better than others. I thought that was great they offered that info upfront!!
