Top 5 Homemade Sugar Scrub Recipes Soft, Sexy Skin Awaits!
One of the best ways to get great sexy skin is to exfoliate. Making a homemade sugar scrub is a super easy and money saving way to get that smooth, sexy skin back after a Summer in the sun! Living in Vegas, that takes a toll on my glow for sure. Winter is right around the corner and ya know what that means! Even more dull, dry skin to come! A homemade sugar scrub not only makes a great gift, they are also so easy to make! Back in ‘the day’ I had a sweet little home biz of all the ‘good smellies’, as I call them. Homemade sugar scrub, lotions, soaps, candles. You name it. I was lucky enough to turn something I loved into an awesome way of helping people get their sexy back and look and feel great. I may not still have shelves lined up but everyone has all the fixing of a great homemade sugar scrub right in your own kitchen! There’s really no reason to buy them. Whether you’re a sugar scrub junkie or just now discovering the luxe benefits, here’s a simple recipe that you can start with. And, a few of my favorites from around the web! Whip some up for yourself, pack in a pretty jar and give as gifts… Just enjoy!
Simple Homemade Sugar Scrub Recipe:
2 Cup Sugar (I prefer Turbinado)
½ Cup Coconut Oil
2 TBSP Honey
1 TBSP Vanilla Extract (or, use your favorite essential oil!)
Combine sugar and honey in a bowl and mix. Add coconut oil and stir until all sugar mixture is well soaked. Add in vanilla or essential oil of choice. Store in an airtight jar and enjoy!
* Using Turbinado sugar makes this is a coarse scrub. If you prefer a more gentle scrub, substitute with brown sugar.
* Oil will always settle in jar. This is normal! Simply stir before using.
* Experiment with different oils (Olive, Almond, Grape-seed, etc) Also, add more or less if you desire a different consistency. There’s no ‘rules’ here!!
* Always exfoliate before shaving. This helps prevent irritation and, you get a way better shave.
This homemade sugar scrub recipe is very basic and as you can see, super easy. You can add all kinds of great stuff to it to make it your own. Maybe substitute the sugar with salts. Add some Shea butter! Sometimes, I like to use a combination of sugars. When it comes to additives, the sky is the limit. Here are a few combinations that I’ve found work and smell great together:
Vanilla and peppermint
Lavender and vanilla
Citrus and mint
Rosemary and lavender
Also, to help make your scrub last longer, add Vitamin E as a preservative. 2-3 Vitamin E capsules that have been opened and stirred in are generally enough.

New at crafting, but would like to make sugar scrubs and sell at local craft fairs, I.e.church and school. What prices would you suggest to sell a 2oz. And a 4 oz jar for ?
Sassy says
That’s a call you’re going to want to take a few things into consideration before making…
1. How much does it cost you to make? Don’t under-charge and lose $$
2. The target audience you’re selling to will vary, depending on where you’re selling. A craft fair you can charge a bit more than a ‘swap meet’ type locale.
Make sense? Hope that helps!!

How long does the basic sugar scrub last if I use Vitamin E in the recipe?
Sassy says
If you keep it in the fridge, it can last about 2-3 months! On a shelf or bathroom counter, maybe 1-2. You’ll notice it starts to turn gray-ish… then it’s going bad. If you keep it in the tub/shower about a week. The water and warmth will speed the growth of bacteria. Don’t keep it there LOL
Also, if you use it IN the shower, make sure to keep it out of the water stream!
I hope that helps!!

Love the citrus sugar cubes idea. Great for travelling and sometimes I don’t want too much oil on my skin. Can’t wait to make another batch this weekend.
Samantha says
Was wondering can you use any extract or does it have to be an essential oil for other smells?
Sassy says
Scented oils add just that… scent. Essential oils will have healing properties. I would add whichever effect you are hoping to achieve.

How did you do those jars & labels? I’m not crafty at all.

I make my own facial and body scrip with small coffee grinds ( I use Bustelo) brown sugar, extra virgin olive oil, and vitamin e capsules and it does wonders for the skin!!!
The oil can be substituted with coconut oil or argan oil. You can even add cacao powder to the mix. I sometimes add msm powder which is a supplement for muscle and joint inflammation but has great properties for skin and is found in many anti aging creams. I massage the scrub into my skin and leave it on for 10 minutes before showering. It’s been a wonderful invention for my skin. It keeps my skin hydrated through the harsh New York winters.

How much does the Homemade Sugar Scrub yield?
Sassy says
The amount of sugar/salt you use is approx how much scrub you’ll make. The oil doesn’t add much ‘product’, it simply adds healing properties. I hope that makes sense 😉

I’m very excited to be making your sugar scrubs as Christmas gifts. Can you please tell me how long they last for when stored in a glass jar?
In advance, thank-you again for sharing and for your feedback.
Have a great day,

If the only additive for preservation you use (to keep it all natural is vitamin E) –

Loved it. I made it for my friends for Christmas. The loved it. I made it plain for my knitting friends and took my essential oils to class with me. Then, I let them flavor it. It was a big hit.. For my other friends I gave them 1/2 of a batch plain and 1/2 a batch with Lavender. They loved it. They are also now making their own. They are getting creative with it. They are using Almond Extract and other essential oils. I will never buy it in the store again. The store bought stuff is too greasy and makes the tub nasty.
Sarah says
I want to do this with lavender essential oil and was wondering if I make the 2cup recipe with sugar how much lavender oil do I use?
Addie says
I used 20. My suggestions is to start small. Start with 5, stir it, smell it, wait a few minutes, smell it again. Then work from there. You will only need to do this once. After that, you will know what works best for you. I would rather work in batches than make it too strong.

I have never had a problem with the sugar scrub greying or getting nasty! I keep it in a small tupperware lidded container on the edge of the tub and it keeps for a month or so. I love your scrubs!! Just made a new batch yesterday and added some coconut oil with the almond oil. This scrub turned out much more light and airy. I am anxious to try it!!

Can I use vitamin e oil instead of powder? And if so how much is appropriate?
Desirae says
Just wondering if it has to be coconut oil, or is there other oils that can be used instead?
Addie says
Let me say first, I LOVE this with the Coconut Oil. No, it does not have to be Coconut Oil. The last batch I made I used part Coconut Oil, part Rapeseed Oil and part Vitamin E oil. My last batch was a very different consistency. It was very thin. I still love it. You can use different oils, but research them and make sure they have some healing properties. You may have to change the sugar to oil ratio. Also, you need to make sure they do not make your tub slick.
