I was recently asked to check out unlimited wireless plans to see if I could find a cheap family wireless plan that would save my family money.

Saving Money On Unlimited Wireless Plans Is It Possible?
See that crazy bill up there? Yeah, that’s my current family wireless plan bill. OBNOXIOUS! That’s not even for cool unlimited wireless plans like you hear about! Nope, 2 lines, unlimited texting, 450 shared talk minutes (with unlimited mobile to mobile) and a restricted amount of data. AND! If you notice, that includes a 15% discount since my husband works as a Firefighter. You don’t even want to know what it goes up to when we go over on data! Kind of embarrassing really. But my job!! I totally suck up all that data usage! So, my bright idea for Father’s Day this year is to help my husband ease off on the stress level when it comes to bills. His stress from the job (and our crazy family) is plenty. I was on a mission….
Cheaper Unlimited Wireless Plans My Mission Starts Here
I’ve been a mad little Google hound the last week. Comparing the different unlimited wireless plans and such. Holy smokes, there’s so many! But which family wireless plan would be best for us? I ruled out the pay as you go type plans right off the bat. Not for us. Walmart Family Mobile ended up at the top. It’s not only a cheaper wireless plan, but there’s no contract! That’s seriously the added bonus! We’re locked into 2 years at a time with the plan we have now. And, we all know so much can change in 2 years! I had to run to Walmart anyways to grab some supplies for this week’s Cupcake Project. So, I figured might as well check it out and get the money savings going. Check out my whole shopping trip on Google! Operation ‘Save Dad Money’ was underway!
So, they made it totally clear right off the bat, the starting monthly price for Walmart Family Mobile unlimited wireless plans were only $40. Now, right there, I’m saving some cash. Adding a 2nd line would only bump it up by $35. Total? $75! Honestly, I don’t think we’ve ever paid $75 for all the limited services let alone a fully unlimited family wireless plan! Ugh… all that cash we’ve been throwing away! Also, totally cool to see that I can use my Samsung Galaxy SIII and my husband’s new phone I picked up. Lots of different phone options from super smartphones to regular talk & text phones. I grabbed the starter kit and headed over to talk to the sales guy.
Meet my buddy Trop. He was seriously awesome. Since I’m giving this to my husband for Father’s Day, I didn’t want to do the activation at home online. Which, he says is super easy. He had our new phone up and running in less than 5 minutes. Pop the SIM card in and I was good to go. I paid my $25 for the activation kit and the 1st month’s service and that’s it! And, here’s the thing. We can give it the full test drive. Surf, text, call all we want and really put it to the test. If we’re as happy as I’m thinking we’re going to be, we just make a regular monthly payment and keep that $$ rolling in. If, for whatever reason this turns out not to be the family wireless plan for us, there’s $0 cancellation fee! $0! Not locked into a contract that doesn’t work. I’m excited to be able to help my husband save some cash and this turns out to be the mother of all unlimited wireless plans!
Check back next month, and I’ll give you an update on how it goes! And, really… it’s a bit better Father’s Day Gift than Ethan wanted to get for him…. Live bait for fishing.

The savings is fantastic, but my only question would be about the quality of service. That’s where I get nervous.

Wow – that seems like a great way to go for phone service. We pay out the nose every month and I really should look into doing something different!

Our cell phone bill is huge! We could pay a car payment for what we pay. Seriously. I feel like it’s almost a waste each month, but then I remember how much I count on my phone and it feels like a catch 22.
Amanda says
That’s a GREAT deal! I wonder how the service is?

What a great way to treat Dad for Father’s Day – my husband would love to get out from under our ridiculous contract! I think my family would save over 50% by switching – that’s amazing! I appreciate you sharing about this plan and am looking forward to reading more about your experience 🙂
