Celebrate Springtime Fun! Our Little Back Yard BBQ and Bigelow Tea
Things you can always count on living in Las Vegas – too many Elvis impersonators, lots of great weather and making tons of Sun Tea! I think it may even be a law, you have to make sun tea not brew inside. I’ll have to check on that. This weekend, Bruce and I found we had some unexpected alone time! I know! It rarely happens, so we planned to take full advantage of it. We took our bright Spring dinner fun outside for a Little Back Yard BBQ.
Also, one thing you can count on living in this gorgeous area is the trade off you make. Super weather for a small (very!) back yard. Since we have a huge park right down the street with lots of grass, water fun activities for the kiddos and some of the coolest play structures you can imagine, we think it’s a pretty fair trade off for sure! We spend a lot of time over there now. And come summer, T-Ball starts! So, when Bigelow Tea asked how I spend time enjoying tea and Spring fun, I had my answer! This alone time was the perfect opportunity for just the two of us to start breaking in the new grill and get that sun tea going for our own little Back Yard BBQ!
I have an amazing recipe I found tucked away in one of last years cooking magazines for a refreshing Summer Salad. Watermelon, cantaloupe, some Feta cheese and Bigelow Plantation Mint Tea! Very easy and very refreshing for our warm weather. Perfect for our little back Yard BBQ too! So, off to Walmart I went to stock on up!
As you can see, there are dozens of choices. But, without fail, Bigelow is our brand of choice. Aside from all the great flavors, I love that for over 60 years Bigelow has remained a family owned business. Each tea bag is wrapped in it’s own foil packet to keep it fresh and that extra step makes a world of difference! We often save the wrapper and use them in Ethan’s craft projects. They are just too cute to toss! One of the biggest bonuses for me is that you can make this tea hot or cold! When I’m drinking my nightly tea, it’s perfect. When we’re breaking it out on a hot day, it’s always awesome to have it cold right then and there! You do know it’s like a gazillion degrees here in the summer, right? That’s super important for quick cool downs when the small fry comes in from a hard day of playing super hero! After grabbing my favorite flavors (Green Tea Pomegranate and Vanilla Chai!) I picked up the Plantation Mint for my summer salad and the rest of our Little Back Yard BBQ fixin’s. You can see my whole Back Yard BBQ shopping trip here on Google+
Filled up my tea and coffee drawer nicely, huh? I set the sun tea outside to ‘brew’ and had the hubby fire up the grill. While that was warming up for the corn and pork chops, I got started on the amazing summer salad! It was even better than I had imagined too! Light, juicy and super refreshing with the added mint tea! I admit, I was a bit skeptical at the thought of the Feta cheese mixing in there, but I’m so glad I didn’t skip it!
You should really check out the Bigelow Tea Blog. They have tons of great recipes and tips for stepping outside the box and making great dishes with your favorite flavors! I loved reading their story and taking a little tour of the Charleston Tea Plantation! You can also connect with them on Facebook and Twitter, keep up with all their latest and greatest!

This summer I told myself that I’m going have to make some sweet sun tea. The vanilla chai tea that you showed, sounds like it could be delicious.

BBQ’n is my favorite thing to do in the spring and summer! We love it so much that my husband has grilled in the winter before. Although I am not a tea drinker, my husband could drown in it. I will have to get some of this tea for him to try.

I am slightly jealous of your tea drawer! I have a basket in a cabinet for our tea but would love to have a drawer for it.

Love your tea drawer and your sun tea dispenser! The watermelon salad sounds great…I’ve had it with the feta and it’s such a great combo.
